Hi Sandy! This is a neat one. Worth way more than a quarter just in entertainment value. I'm about to reveal my warped perspective, but did you notice this guy has two women to help him keep track of the thread? Do you think there is one of these "thread wranglers" anywhere in the universe that has one woman and two men? Or maybe he showed up just to give them a sweet bunch of flowers while they were doing all the thread wrangling. Is he wearing a skirt too or WHAT? This piece is priceless, Sandy, and interesting too. I love your Vintage Tuesday.
I just love this piece, Sandy. I believe this is an older brother with his twin sisters out for a walk on a spring day. The wind is whipping the skirts into a frothy swirl around the trio. It is quite possible that it might start to rain. Good thing there is an umbrella!
I live in Connecticut with one husband and 4 cats. I have work for sale in my Etsy shop and in galleries in the U.S. If you have any questions about a specific piece .... please email me . My work is considered as Contemporary Folk Art or sometimes as outsider art. One of my paintings is in the permanent collection of The Hurn Museum of Contemporary Folk Art in Georgia. I thought it was a topper for a wedding cake, until I saw the two gals. Very cute.
I would put this string holder(I believe it is for string- the hole looks big enough, true?) at about the 40's give or take.
Great price! Fab piece. I would've spent a quarter on it:)
Maybe it's earlier. How big is it? Any markings on the bottom?
oh you guys are funny
Lydia > I looked on the bottom
It says made in Japan
Love it! I guess he is escorting them, and is hidden behind their hoop skirts?? so pretty!
"made in Japan" would date it to the 1950's. Just after WWII, anything manufactured in Japan said "made in occupied Japan". Really cute string holder.
