Witch art doll Halloween

It was hard for me to get BACK into making art ........ I spent so much time away painting the kitchen .
I had a few tough days ..... I just couldn't relax into creating
but
Thank you dear God ...... today I made a doll , had FUN making this doll
I don't know why I made a Halloween doll !!!
but here she is
I will make more ..... and open a Halloween section in my etsy shop EARLY this year !

painting the kitchen

I've been so busy , busy painting my whole kitchen and hallway too !

For MANY years .....It WAS all whites and beige { shabby chic } , and it was dirty and a MESS !
I needed COLOR .  I NEEDED a big change .
I decided on a color called Botanical Green { Behr paint } and a Martha Stewart pink color { made into Behr paint }
The above photo is over the kitchen table . That's a really big old mirror that makes the kitchen look bigger . I put a shelf under it .

 so the table is here ..... but we don't really use it . It belongs to the cats . How did THAT happen ?
There's two old wicker laundry baskets there , that's where you'll usually find Buddy and Baby Em .

To the left of the mirror I placed my RAT boy . I painted him on wood and cut him out on my saw .
Above him is my Breakfast painting of Wanda the Waitress  .... with her menu and flying fried egg .

 I love my rat boy .

On the other side of the big old mirror is my painting of Adele . It's a Budgie birthday party painting .

This is something I put together years ago .... an old greeting card , fabric background , buttons on the frame .

This is above my pie safe cabinet .
just the top of it ..... I really wanted you to see the peacock feathers and Jesus !

This is the sink area .  That is my garden window over the sink . I LOVE the garden window .
I made the valance from vintage hankies , and the other part is a very old sheer bureau scarf { it has embroidered flowers on it }

This is the the other part of the kitchen , my two room kitchen . The frig , oven and microwave are in here , and the back door .

see that small bookcase ?  The top part is from an old rocking chair . to the right of that book case is the hallway to the bathroom .

 I found this rug on sale at Marshall's for twenty dollars .

and my new Rachel Ray tea kettle .   yeah ..... I went with COLORS !!!!!

It was so hard to take photos . The colors aren't quite true in these photos .
but I love these colors  ..... the colors are bold but soft . Who knew with all this color that it could be so restful !
This was a much needed big change .  It has lifted my spirit . and I thank the Lord BECAUSE ..... it REALLY was God that helped me to do this . HE knew I needed to do this .
God is so good
so paint a room , add some pussy willows and peacock feathers..... some colors , do some cleaning .....
it will make you happy
Paint a room !!!!!! it will lift you up !

I've been busy agonizing over painting my kitchen .  For years it's been shabby chic , NOW I am dreaming of colors and I'm going to be very brave and go with some deep rich colors, Bohemian colors !

art doll for Etsy

Today ...... I finished a doll , a doll for spring { Greta }
She is in my shop

today ....I did a little cleaning too ........ in " the hidden places " ........ sorting through drawers of fabric and lace
I call it the hidden places because one would never know I cleaned
and
 as I look outside ...... I can see the old sink birdbath that was buried in snow for the whole week , and I see my picket fence again
that storm was incredible .  THAT was a blizzard ..... a real Doozie of a blizzard !

 this is the path to the driveway ....... I measured 32 inches deep...40 inch drifts

 time to take a break from all this snow . I painted this painting a few years ago ....... pretty funny huh

well ............ we got it ! it seems everyone got a different amount of snow , I think we got the most { ? } here in Connecticut
we shoveled just a little .  it's too much .  There's no where to PUT the snow !!!!!!!!   I wonder when we'll get to our cars

another chalk painted piece

 looking around in my basement .... I found this , so ............ I used Behr "Botanical Green " paint with plaster of paris mixed in [ chalk paint } ....... I put three coats on , distressed the edges .

 THIS time , instead of using paste wax ...... I tried Wipe-on Poly { by Minwax } , which was even easier than applying the paste wax

Perfect for my dolls .

I've gone chalk paint crazy

 this is an OLD mirror , got it years ago at a yard sale . It's a pretty big mirror . It measures about 18 x 20 inches . It's chalk ware ? ..... old plaster ??? ........ anyway it's really old .  It was painted bright aqua { looked awful } , so it stayed in my basement for years .  Last night I threw on some pale pink chalk paint , here you see the first coat of pale pink over the aqua . ......... OH .... I am loving chalk paint !

 I put three coats of my own chalk paint on . Then I sanded , so some of the aqua pops out , and then I rubbed paste wax on .

Last night as I fell asleep.... I counted things to paint with chalk paint { instead of counting sheep }
I might even paint my refrigerator .  I've gone chalk paint crazy !!!!

Chalk Paint = Happy Girl

 I have wanted to try making my own chalk paint for the longest time ...... I finally did it ! and I'm SO happy I did .  I bought this child size bureau the other day . It's only 18 inches tall and 14 inches wide .
doesn't look so good in the wood color , does it .
You do NOT have to use primer on this

 I mixed Plaster of Paris into some old pink paint .......
If you try this >>>>> get as many lumps out first . add a little hot water into the plaster of paris , get rid of lumps and then add to your paint .  I didn't measure . I just threw some in .
** update ** > Denise mentioned in comments ... to use an emersion blender to get rid of the lumps . what a good idea ! thanks Denise .

 then I sanded , and distressed edges ....... then I used Minwax Finishing Wax Paste
and here is how it looks now .

I am thrilled !!!!!!!! I am happy ..... I'm so excited , I want to paint more furniture , old frames too .
I love that you don't have to prime the piece first
Just paint it on !
I did three coats ..... but I've never done this before ... so maybe you don't need three coats
I also had too many lumps in my paint , { so I had to sand a lot away } ....so next time I will get more lumps out
I had no idea what I was doing , I just dived in and it worked out well
TRY it ......TRY it ...... do it ......... it's fun ......... you will be HAPPY .... just like me you will be a HAPPY Girl !
